Civil Tech Pty Ltd was engaged by the Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council to complete the replacement of the Burra Street Bridge in Mintaro, delivering a safer and more resilient crossing for road users and pedestrians.
The works involved the demolition of the ageing bridge structure and the construction of a new reinforced concrete bridge, designed to modern safety standards and improved load capacity.
Key scope elements included:
Demolition and disposal of the existing bridge structure
Bulk earthworks, clearing, grubbing, and excavation
Insitu concrete base slab, deck slab, headwalls, and wingwalls
Installation of precast concrete culvert units using specialised lifting equipment, meeting tight tolerances
Placement of stone pitching and rock scour protection for erosion control
Construction and sealing of the road approaches, ensuring smooth integration with the surrounding road network
Installation of W-beam guardrail, pedestrian rail, and TL2-rated approach barriers for enhanced safety
Comprehensive traffic management, including detour signage and site controls, was implemented to maintain community safety throughout construction.
The bridge replacement was completed within a 12-week program, with close coordination between the Council, local residents, and key stakeholders to minimise disruption.
The completed structure now provides a safe, durable, and low-maintenance crossing, supporting improved access for residents, visitors, and freight vehicles in the historic township of Mintaro.
