Description:
Civil Tech Pty Ltd delivered the design and construction of a 3.0-metre-wide shared-use path alongside Mt Barker Road between Boucaut Street and Gill Terrace in Glen Osmond, South Australia. This project was undertaken to enhance the link between the Crafers Bikeway and the City to Freeway Bikeway, creating a safer, more viable connection for cyclists and pedestrians.
The scope of works included excavation and removal of the existing narrow block-paved footpath, construction of a new retaining wall, and reworking and widening of the existing base to support the wider shared-use path. The new path was surfaced with compacted fine gap graded asphalt (AC7L) to meet DIT specifications, and featured kerb ramps with tactile indicators, ensuring accessibility and safety for all users.
To further enhance safety, tubular black powder-coated fencing was installed as a barrier between the new path and the steep embankment down to Mount Barker Road. Works were delivered in a complex roadside environment with active traffic management in place, under the care and control of the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT).
This project highlights Civil Tech’s capabilities in delivering safe, inclusive, and compliant shared-use infrastructure, while working within tight spatial constraints and alongside major transport corridors.
